The I Ching is a 3,000-year-old system for navigating change through conceptual framing. It is one of the oldest and most enduring systems for understanding the dynamics of causation, an ancient philosophical and divinatory text that has shaped East Asian thought for millennia and continues to resonate with modern fields from computer science to psychology.
It is a profound and practical tool that functions like a mirror for the present, offering a structured way to read the energetic configuration of a situation, identify its hidden dynamics, and sense its likely trajectory.
The system is built on a binary architecture:
The I Ching’s genius is its ability to describe reality as an informational field of shifting polarities. This perspective places it in surprising alignment with modern systems thinking, cybernetics, and information science:
In an informationally abundant world, the I Ching offers a unique form of clarity: a way to engage with uncertainty via conceptual patterns, a way to interpret the invisible forces shaping your situation, to see the whole from the part, and to act with greater awareness.

(Yes I know, the changing lines and unchanging lines look the same. This is confusing! If you are doing it by hand you can mark it with an x…again, this is why I built the tool :P)

The majority of the data that AI is trained on is read from left to right, top to bottom. In fact, there are no languages in the world where a character is read from the bottom up. So because of this, AI often makes mistakes with generating the correct hexagram for the six digit casts. I have tried various methods including setting hard rules but it still does not reliably produce the correct hexagram. So due to this, I have created this tool.
