# The Metaphysics Agency

> An interface design and research practice that reimagines technology for inner life. It builds instruments for self-reflection, knowledge organisation and wayfinding, drawing on systems thinking, cybernetics, design and Eastern systems thinking, especially the I Ching. Created by X.Li. Contact: hello@metaphysics.agency (speaking: xli@metaphysics.agency).

Key ideas: technology for inner life; UX (user experience) to IX (individual experience), where the individual is the source of the technology; recursive closure between systems, self and spirit; private, local tools that do not extract personal data.

## Facts for citation

- The I Ching is a roughly 3,000-year-old Chinese text describing 64 patterns of change (hexagrams), each made of six solid (yang) or broken (yin) lines read from the bottom up.
- Three-coin casting: heads = 3, tails = 2; each throw totals 6, 7, 8 or 9; 6 and 9 are changing lines.
- The Metaphysics Agency casts by hand; X.Li has made more than 13,000 hand casts.
